Valentine's Day!

This was Owen's first opportunity to bring valentines to school for his class, so we had fun picking out some free printable ones on the internet. After our adventure to the Star Wars exhibit, of course they had to be Yoda. :) I thought they turned out pretty cute, and Owen was super happy with them.

Side note - valentines in school these days are nuts. When I went to school, everyone bought the pre-made valentines in a box that you fold and hand out. The ones that you had to close with a little sticker were super special. I thought Owen's valentines would be pretty cool, but there were SO many creative valentines in Owen's collection that he brought home. One mom even hand-made cake pops for each kid, and packaged them all up in cute cellophane wrappers with ribbons and personalized tags. Crazy.

My little valentine girly with the candy necklace daddy gave her.

Our ward Primary held a Family Sweetheart Ball the weekend before Valentine's Day. It was so cute and fun - my kids literally danced the whole time. They've got some great moves.
Photo booth!

Nora dancing. Whenever she got tired she'd lay down and dance on the floor.

Can you see her little leggy swinging back and forth? This is one of her favorite moves. :)

Owen doing the sprinkler!

Photo booth with a couple kids from primary.

Love these little Valentine cuties.

Matt's Birthday and the Star Wars exhibit

For Christmas someone in our ward anonymously gave us tickets to the Star Wars Exhibit at the Tech Museum in San Jose. Matt LOVES Star Wars, so we decided to take a family trip for his birthday. He took the day off (and we called Owen 'sick' out of school) and headed down.

The exhibit was AMAZING. So many original costumes, models, puppets, and props from the movies. My favorite part was seeing the actual space ship models they used to film many scenes - so much detail work went into making those! We all had a great time. Nora came away from the day being able to say "Yoda", "Darth Vader", "Obi-wan Kenobi", and sing Darth Vader's theme. Mission accomplished. :) After we were done in the Star Wars exhibit, we went and saw the rest of the museum. It was good too, but Star Wars was by far our favorite part.

X-wing fighter model

Han Solo and Boba Fett costumes.

Millennium Falcon model.

This baby loves her daddy.

The land cruiser Luke drives in IV.

Driving a hovercraft!

Testing out the mini hovercraft models we built.

Darth Vader! I loved seeing his dissected mask in the case to the right. That did NOT look comfortable.

One of the real Yoda puppets used in the movies!

Wookies!

Owen can't keep the names of R2-D2 and C3PO straight... it's pretty funny.

The kids got to make their own light sabers!

Elsewhere in the museum... can you see Nora's glowing diaper through her pants? We thought that was pretty hilarious.

The kids try out wheelchair racing.

These dots started chasing you if you stood too close to the wall.

Matt running from the dots... and freaking Nora out.

We had a great day!

We didn't have time to make a birthday cake until a few days later... so Matt got a candle in a hostess cupcake. Don't judge. :)

Manly presents.

Celebrating with angel food cake (because Nora can actually eat that) a few days later.

Monterey for Christmas!

We got to go to Monterey for about a day and a half after Christmas. There's nothing like hanging out at the ocean house to make you feel relaxed. :)

The Monarch butterflies were in season on their way through Monterey, so we stopped by the park to see them.

Climbing the whale outside the Natural History Museum. This thing has been there forever - I remember coming to it when I was little.

Learning about Monarch butterflies!

This kid loves the ocean... even when it's freezing cold!

Nora was very concerned about the sand stuck to her feet.

Breakfast at First Awakenings - yum!

Fisherman's Wharf!

The "rocky beach" is our favorite - we love climbing and exploring!

Checking out some hermit crabs.

Look at my shells, mom!

The light was perfect for a good picture of this boy's chocolate eyes. :)

Love these cuties.

Ghirardelli now serves lemon sorbet - perfect for our milk-free baby girl!

This girl has some crazy faces.... just like her brother... and her dad. :)

Loving her sorbet.

There was a huge mirror right next to our booth. Nora spent about 10 minutes making faces at herself in the mirror. I was cracking up.

Singing to herself.

What a nut. :)
